Christmas Tree & Lights: Reminders God is Creator

Trees are remarkable!

  • There are over 3 trillion trees and over 100,000 different types of trees in the world.

  • The oldest known living tree is over 5,070 years old.

  • The tallest tree is 379 feet high.

  • A 100-foot-high tree can take 11,000 gallons of water from the soil and release it into the air as oxygen and water vapor in a single growing season.

  • Between 25-30 million live Christmas trees are sold each year in the United States.

  • On average, it takes a real Christmas tree 7 years to reach a height of 6 to 7 feet.

  • A tree is mentioned at nearly every important event in the Bible.

Decorating and looking at our beautiful Christmas trees with their sparkling lights can remind us of God who made the light, trees, and all things. The Bible says:

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. . .

“And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light . . .

“And out of the ground the LORD God made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to

the sight and good for food (Genesis 1:1, 3; Genesis 2:9).”

Because trees are amazing and God made them tells us that God Himself is amazing! For God to make and care for so many different kinds of trees tells us that God is wise, strong, beautiful, and He has a great imagination.

God made light, trees, and all things – including you. God made you to be like a model or picture of Him. He gave you a mind so you can learn and know God. He gave you the ability to know right from wrong (called a conscience). God gave you a spirit so that you can enjoy, love, and worship Him. God gave you the ability to do things so that you can honor Him by working.

Remember: As you look at your Christmas tree, remember that God considers trees very important because He made them and cares for them. God considers you very important too. God made you and cares for you. God sent His Son Jesus to teach you about Him, yourself, and how you might know and love God.

Discuss: Do you think trees are amazing? Why? How can looking at your tree remind you of God?

Pray: Dear Lord, You are awesome for making trees, the beautiful world, and me. Please help me to know and love you more each day. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
